Guilty plea brings 22-year sentence

A Westminster man, originally charged with murder, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge this morning and was sentenced in the Oconee General Sessions Court. Joshua Michael Fulbright pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of Richard Alan Marszalek in late 2013 at an address on the W. Spearman Road and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. Fulbright is 29 years old. An investigator for the Sheriff’s Office, David McMahan, told Judge Lee Alford that Marszalek, 61 years old, was beaten with a brick or wooden-type object before his body was discovered in the rubble of a burned down mobile home. Fulbiright apologized.  He told the judge, “I’m very sorry.  I’m really a good person.  I  let drugs get a hold of my life 8 to 10 years ago.”
