Haley selects Scott

Representative Tim Scott (R) will be the first African-American to serve in the U.S. Senate from the Deep South since Reconstruction

In a state known long ago for segregation, South Carolina has turned to an African-American to serve in the U-S Senate. Governor Nikki Haley announces the appointment of Congressman Tim Scott to fill the remaining two years of the office opened by Jim DeMint’s resignation to take another job. Scott will be eligible to seek a full, six-year term in 2014.
