Hands-free now the law

In Oconee County, you may continue to drive and talk on the phone, but your portable device must be hands-free. After a public hearing, the county council last night adopted a distracted driving law that forbids the use of cell phones, including texting, throughout the unincorporated areas—-unless your portable phone can be operated with hands-free controls. It’s believed the Sheriff’s Office will temporarily allow a grace period to allow Oconee motorists to get used to the new law, but Jimmy Watt says you shouldn’t chance it.
