Hart County says no to PRWD

An Oconee-based water utility will have to look elsewhere for help withdrawing water from Lake Hartwell. WLHR Lake Hartwell Radio reports the members of the Hart County, Georgia Water and Sewer Authority voted 5-0 last night against Oakway-based Pioneer Rural Water District’s request to piggyback onto Hart’s Army Corps of Engineer’s permit. As Hugh Holland, Hart County authority chairman, put it: Water is Hart’s most important resource and the county must hang onto it. It was not immediately clear what Pioneer must now resort to for a supply of raw water to send to what’s planned as the district’s first treatment plant, proposed to be built in Oconee’s Golden Corner Commerce Park at Fair Play. None of Pioneer’s representatives attended last night’s meeting in Hartwell.
