High Court denies a stay

According to the organization Palmetto Family, the U-S Supreme Court has stepped in and decided against an emergency stay of a lower court’s decision to allow same-sex marriage applications in the Palmetto State. The ruling means those applications may be accepted as early as noon today. The office of Oconee County Probate Judge has been preparing to receive applications, pending what the courts say. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson tried to block Judge Richard Gergel’s ruling, arguing that the state had the right to define marriage—not the federal government.
