Highway finish date extended

The State of South Carolina has approved extension dates to allow the general contractor another month to complete Oconee County’s major highway project, Sheep Farm Road. The original agreement called for all work to be finished by December 15, but the new date is January 20. According to Ryan Miller, resident construction engineer for the DOT, the inclusion of some permanent traffic signs and other items were not envisioned, so the state has agreed to pay the US Group approximately an additional $10 thousand. Miller stresses, however, the January 20 date is weather-related, as the cold weather could impact the contractor’s ability to complete all of the remaining road surfacing.
