Hiker falls 25 feet

Rescuers employed several ropes to lift a fallen hiker to safety yesterday near Long Creek.  A young Charleston female had fallen 25 feet to the lower falls at BrasstownFalls.  In all, it took more than two hours to lift the girl to safety and an eventual trip to the hospital for what were described as non-life threatening injuries.. EMS and fire and rescue personnel requested additional help from OconeeCounty and Rabun County, Georgia. One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the rescue. He was treated at OconeeMemorialHospital and released. Charlie King of Oconee Emergency Services said, “We cannot say enough about the hard work and dedication of the team members that continue to go above and beyond to serve the citizens and visitors of OconeeCounty. Team members worked through extreme temperatures to meet the demands of the mission. They were supported by counterparts from two states to make the mission a success.
