Hiker’s fall broken by small ledge

A 16-year old boy’s fall at IssaqueenaFalls north of Walhalla was stopped by a small ledge, and there he remained stranded until rescuers were able to extricate him to safety.  According to Scott Krein of Oconee Emergency Services, rescuers used a system of ropes and rappelled down to his rescue.  They found him 75 feet below the walking trail.  Krein added these words of caution:  “With safety in mind, we must remember that railings and signs are in place for a reason.  Anyone near or around a waterfall or rock drop-off needs to use caution and pay attention to where they are traveling.  No view is worth injury.”
