History to be made Thursday in Seneca

The public this week gets a sneak preview of a new history museum in Seneca.  Ribbon-cutting at the Bertha lee Strickland Cultural Museum takes place 11:30 Thursday morning at 208 W-S 2nd Street.  A network of two houses, the museum will celebrate the Golden Corner’s rich African-American history and culture.  Until her death in 1971, Bertha Lee Strickland lived in one of the houses.  In 2009, Seneca City Council approved funding for the construction of the museum.  Work finished last June.  The museum will feature exhibits and rotating displays of the collections two or three times a year.  The official museum opening date is February 12, to coincide with Black History Month.
