Hit-run fatality on I-85

State troopers are investigating a hit-run fatality early Saturday on I-85 near the entrance to the state Welcome Center at Fair Play. Coroner Karl Addis said the victim was a 28-year old Lavonia, Georgia man, David Michael Rogers. Addis says Rogers, apparently a pedestrian around 4 o’clock Saturday morning, was discovered by a deputy shortly after 10 Saturday morning—after a passerby noticed what looked like a body or an animal carcass near the northbound lanes. The coroner attributes Rogers’ death to blunt force trauma and said the first vehicle that hit him has not been identified, but most likely was a tractor-trailer. A parked vehicle on the southbound lane provided a tentative identification. It’s believed the vehicle had run of fuel.
