HIV testing encouraged

Today is World AIDS Day and, according to the state Department of Health and Environmental Control, 15,700 people are living with HIV in South Carolina. HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS, is preventable. “We strongly encourage everyone to learn their status by being tested for HIV,” said Janet Tapp, director of DHEC’s STD/HIV Division. “As part of our effort to help, we are intensifying our efforts to find those who are unaware of their HIV infection and get them to essential care services.” You can make an appointment at DHEC’s main office in Oconee County, at 609 N. Townville Street in Seneca. The clinic number is 882-2245 and the appointment line is 800/868-0404.
