Holiday is a busy travel period

An estimated 660 thousand South Carolinians are expected to travel 50 miles or more during the Thanksgiving holiday.  The motor club AAA estimates this year’s numbers will be only a slight increase from last year.  Most drive to their destinations.  And, for those who drive, they will experience the lowest gas pump prices since 2008.  South Carolina is one of handful of states where the pump price has dropped below $2 dollars a gallon.  The highest numbers of travelers on the road will depart for their destinations on Wednesday and most will return on Sunday.  Thanksgiving is one of the most dangerous holidays for motorists because of its five-day length and the heavy traffic caused by the high numbers of travelers on the road.  Last year during the holiday, eight people were killed in crashes on South Carolina highways.  According to AAA, those flying will experience cheaper airfares than last year at this time.  The busiest day for air travel is today with the highest number to return the following Monday, November 30, or later.
