Holiday weekend starts summer travel

The motor club AAA projects around 1.5 million Carolinians on the roads this weekend bound for Memorial Day destinations.  Most will travel by motor vehicle and the airlines. Popular destinations are Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Savannah, Georgia; Orlando, Florida; and Denver, Colorado.  The long Memorial Day weekend also marks the beginning of the “100 deadliest days” for teenage drivers.  Seven of those days are between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  During this holiday weekend, South Carolina will suspend construction projects on interstates and high-volume primary routes.  AAA expects to come to the rescue of more than 11,000 motorists during the weekend travel period, with the primary reasons being dead batteries, lockouts and flat tires.  It’s recommended you check the conditiion of your car battery and tires before heading out.
