Home and woods fires

A home in Salem caught fire late last night, and fire fighters were at the scene at 308 S. Oak Street nearly three hours. According to Oconee County dispatch, it’s believed all people inside that home got out without injury. The call was received at 9:45. The Oconee Chapter of the American Red Cross was sent to render aid to those displaced. Near Westminster yesterday afternoon, a strong wind helped whip up the flames of a woods fire near U-S 76 on the Elizabeth Cox Road. Chris Smith, the Westminster chief, said at one point the fire spread to a ridge of property before a stop could be made.
