Hospital “governance: at the fore

The trustees who govern the Greenville Health System, which includes the Oconee Memorial Hospital, are scheduled to act next week on a governance resolution that apparently would move public non-profit GHS closer to being part of a large private, non-profit multi-regional system.  As one local hospital source explained it to us it would allow GHS to remain a major player in a changing health care picture that eventually could leave only a few players.  The idea—a concern to some state lawmakers from Greenville—has been bandied about for a few months.  A due diligence period on the part of GHS officials has been in progress for about three months.  In the meantime, before the state Supreme Court is an action by two former GHS board  members who want a decision on whether, under state law, GHS may devolve into a private non-profit.  At the GHS meeting Tuesday, trustees are scheduled
