“How come your jet fuel is so high?”

Oconee’s new airport director, Jeff Garrison, had hardly settled in when it came time last Saturday to handle airport operations on the day of the Clemson home game with Florida State.  It was a busy day.  The airport counted 58 planes in and out last Saturday—carrying fans of both teams.  One of the pilots questioned the price at which the Oconee Regional Airport charges for jet fuel.  A comparison of Jet-A fuel given the county aeronautics commission showed Oconee charges more than other nearby airports.  Oconee is selling Jet-A fuel at $4.51 a gallon.  Anderson sells the same fuel for $4.13.  Spartanburg Airport was the lowest among nearby airports surveyed.  Its price was $3.50.  It gives Oconee’s Garrison something to think about, but he’s not yet ready to lowering the price for a commodity that helps keep revenues churning at the local airport.
