HS FOOTBALL: Oconee teams lose Friday night

All three Oconee County high school football teams saw defeat in action Friday night. In WGOG’s broadcast game from Williamston, Palmetto gets its first Western AAA win of the season with a 29-13 win over Walhalla. The game was close until the fourth quarter, the start of which the Mustangs led by only a 16-13 margin. Elsewhere, West-Oak goes on the road and returns with a 48-13 loss to Wren. The Warriors got on the board first with a kick return for a touchdown from Landon Owen to open the game. Emerald defeated Seneca 27-17. Next week, West-Oak takes its turn at Doug Shaw’s Palmetto Mustangs in our broadcast game from Westminster. Perhaps the most exciting game Friday night took place at Sirrine Stadium on Greenville’s West End where the Red Raiders led Pickens 40-3 early in the third quarter. That’s before the Blue Flame rolled off 49 second half points, only to fall short in the end, 60-52.
