Hunters snare 47 bears during 2016 season

Hunters took 47 bears during the recently-completed season across Oconee, Pickens and Greenville counties.  The DNR’s Tammy Wactor said the plentiful crop of acorns on the ground along with the warm, dry weather resulted in fewer bears on the prowl for a food supply.  Wactor says dry conditions impede hunting dogs from picking up a bear’s scent. Twelve of the 47 bears were killed in Oconee County; 26 in Pickens County; and nine in Greenville.
