S. C. Attorney General Alan Wilson warns South Carolinians to beware of opportunities in investment schemes in the wake of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy. Wilson says cold-calling telephone salespersons, advertisements, and Internet postings that promote investment pools or bonds to help storm victims, or promote water-removal or purification technologies, electricity-generating devices and distressed real estate remediation programs should be a red flag to investors. He also warned that fake victims may try to use social media to dupe well-intentioned donors.
