Hydrants key to lower ISO

August 7, 2013

The Walhalla fire chief says hydrants are the key to qualifying homeowners for lower insurance rates. And Chief Doug Kelley inquired of the city’s elected leaders last night whether they would be willing to approve the necessary funds to place new hydrants within the un-incorporated sections of their fire protection district. According to Kelley, it could mean lowering ISO, or Insurance Service Office, ratings from 9 to 3. The lower the rating the greater chance homeowners have for their insurance providers to reduce their premiums.
