Hydro plant bids for relicensing

A plant tour and a briefing on the operations of a privately-run hydro power plant near Seneca will take place the day of Wednesday, August 3, and the Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority has directed its executive director to represent the authority during those proceedings.  The Coneross Hydro plant, owned by a group of attorneys, is located downstream from the Coneross Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Bob Winchester, executive director of the JRSA, says he doesn’t believe the re-licensing of that hydro plant will have any effect on the sewer treatment business.  To generate electricity, the Coneross Hydro Plant diverts a certain amount of water from the Coneross Creek.  Draws from the creek are regulated by the federal government to conform with the stream flow formula called 7 Q 10.
