I-T switch upcoming at OMC

February 26, 2013

April 1 will be No Fools Day at Oconee Medical Center. That’s the day the hospital launches its new information technology system for medical records. After outlining to the board of directors the changes ahead, vice president for operations Hunter Kome explained to reporters why Paragon, the new way, will be better than the old. “The Paragon uses one single-base data system, so there’s one patient record….It allows information to be shared much more quickly,” Kome said referring to the medical personnel authorized to see a patient’s records. He stresses that privacy rules are in place to prevent anyone unauthorized to look at a patient’s electronic medical record. The move to Pargaon sounds costly, but Kome says that over the long run, it’s a money-saver.
