“…if an offer sounds too good to be true….”

A management employee of The Journal has contacted Oconee Sheriff’s Office about what appears to be a scam attempted by an individual wanting to give away a motorcycle. The person with the motorcycle wanted to place an ad to give the motorcycle away, with the stipulation that the person receiving it pay the shipping costs. According to the Sheriff’s Office, an attempt failed to verify the name of the individual wanting to place the advertisement. Twice before, according to the Sheriff’s Office, the newspaper declined to publish the ad. “Always remember that if an offer sounds too good to be true, then more likely it is,” said Jimmy Watt, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.
