Important community meeting next week in Fair Play

Long-time Oakway resident Tony Adams hopes everyone with interest in Oakway and the rest of southern Oconee County will mark their calendars next week for a community meeting.  This meeting is for everyone interested in helping save the former Oakway Intermediate School building and grounds will take place at 6:30 Monday night, August 29 in the meeting room of the Fair Play Youth Association in Fair Play.  Since the decision to close the public school there effective with the end of the last school year, there have been a variety of ideas expressed about what should be done there.  According to Adams, community members have been doing a lot of work toward what happens to the building and property and the meeting on the 29th will serve as way to communicate that information.  In a related matter, Adams said he and others this afternoon are going to have their first look at a set of Oakway school trophies recently discovered.  He said there was some belief that those trophies had been lost forever.
