Improvements ahead for Main Street building

A large, three-story building within Walhalla’s core commercial area will undergo improvements and other work before it is re-occupied, according to its owner.  Richard Addis says the tenant in the building is relocating her business to West Union, and he will be in the market for a new tenant.  The building covers nine thousand square feet on the north side of Main Street, between Tugaloo and College streets.  The building is connected to a lot of local history.  It once was Davenport Funeral Home, but its origins date back to 1916 when Will Brown started construction there for his home.  The First World War came along and Brown was unable to finish the home until 1921.  Will Brown was the father of Arthur Brown, who was a Walhalla mayor and a leading businessman and land owner.
