Incumbent loses bid for re-election

One incumbent coasted to re-election.  A second incumbent saw his re-election hopes dashed.  Those are highlights from primary election in Oconee County.  Wayne McCall of District Two dispatched his opponent, Jared Ketterman, with a tally of nearly 72.5%, to Ketterman’s 27.5%.  Julian Davis III topped a three-man field for Seat Four County Council, with Davis taking 62.68%; incumbent Joel Thrift, 22.98%; and John Dalen, 14.35%.  In the closest contest of the night, Glenn Hart stayed on top for District Five, holding off opponent Sandra Jones 53.96% to 46.04%. Another three-man field saw Solicitor candidate David Wagner carry Oconee County with 63.4%.  Wilson Burr finished at 23.5% and Rame Campbell at 13%.  The Solicitor’s result must be factored with Anderson County results before a winner is declared there.  The Anderson Independent reports this morning that there will be a runoff election between Wagner and Campbell.  There were other stories election night.  Most Oconee voters sat this election out.  Figures show only 10% of those who could have cast bellots turned out.  And there was a widespread power outage late in the day that covered at least five precincts in upper parts of Oconee and took 101.7/WGOG off the air temporarily.
