Incumbents challenged in municipal elections

Incumbents are being challenged in two of this year’s municipal elections in Oconee County, and we have an unconfirmed report of council competition in a third town.  The candidate qualifying ended today with identical numbers of candidates in both Walhalla and Westminster.  In Walhalla, Mayor Danny Edwards faces a challenge by Dennis Owens.  The field for three council seats is made of incumbents Tjay Bagwell, David Underwood, and Danny Woodward.  They are joined by challengers Davy Lee and Randy Chastain.  In Westminster, Mayor Rick McCormick will face challenger Brian Ramey.  The council candidates are incumbents Jimmy Powell and Donna King Sheriff and challengers Susan Ramey, Charles Miller, and Ronald Dodson.  Qualifying also ended in Salem today, and there’s an unofficial report that a third person has entered the race for two available council seats.
