Indoor aquatic center pins hopes on November ballot

The project to build Oconee County’s first public indoor swimming pool combined with a general recreation center is headed for this year’s General Election ballot. It’ll be a referendum vote November 4—a proposition in which Oconeeans are being asked to accept an extra penny of sales tax in exchange for a variety of improvement projects countywide. One of them is the Foothills YMCA’s long-time pursuit of an aquatic/recreation type center. At 96.3/WGOG Darryl Broome, the Y’s executive director, expressed the hope that most people will vote yes on the 1% capital project sales tax. On the list of priorities set by the County Council, the ‘Y’ project is ranked third in the order of how the 1-cent funds would be distributed.
