Jail price: $16,253,068

Oconee County now has a guaranteed maximum price to build its new jail. It’s $16.2 million, as announced last night by Matt Berberick, program manager for designing the project. It’s a price suitable to Sheriff Mike Crenshaw and to the County Council. For that price, Oconee is to receive a facility of 64,339 square feet, containing 200 prison beds and, in an emergency, the capability to house up to 244 prisoners. The jail is to be built to the cemetery side of the existing detention center. Actual construction is imminent and the timetable calls for a finish date of May 1, 2015.
