JRSA passes resolution

December 3, 2013

The policymakers for the Joint Regional Sewer Authority have decided to leave it up to their member cities whether to release Oconee County from an annual payment to the authority. Without objection, the authority commissioners passed a resolution to be forwarded to the cities. The commission acted after hearing Greg Dietterick speak about the background of a $610 thousand payment which, of late, has been a sore point between Oconee County and the JRSA. Dietterick said, “We don’t need to be in politics. We need to be in the treatment business.” The city administrator appeared to be influential last night as he responded to a question by fellow commissioner Mendel Stone. The commission’s resolution is to be considered as early as tonight when Walhalla City Council holds committee meetings at City Hall. Mayor Pro-tem Tjay Bagwell, who attended the JRSA meeting, says he’ll make a report to his mayor and fellow council members. We’ll have Bagwell’s reaction, as well as that of County Councilman Reg Dexter, later today on 96.3/WGOG NEWS.
