JTEKT/Koyo expands

A company’s newest expansion project will benefit Richland County but not Oconee. Leon “Butch” Harris, however, says there is a reason for that. Harris, project manager for JTEKT/Koyo, says the automotive systems and industrial components supplier considered several existing locations, but preference went to plants making products similar to the ones being added in Richland County. In an email reply to 96.3/WGOG NEWS, Harris said, “The Oconee County plant makes different products. That is why Richland County was preferred over Oconee County.” Harris used to manager Koyo’s Walhalla plant, formerly Timken. About it, he added this, “Our plant in Oconee County has continued to be successful  for over 50 years now. It had a large expansion in 2006/2007. Oconee County is a great county for manufacturers. JTEKT/Koyo appreciates the support it receives from Oconee County!” The company last week announced its brand bearing plant in Richland County will see a $130 million investment expected, over the next three years, to generate 75 new jobs.
