Judge mulls Florida man’s request for trip home

Oconee General Sessions Judge Lawton McIntosh says he wants to speak to a Florida doctor before deciding whether he’ll allow a defendant to return to the Grapefruit State for the purpose of picking up medication for his condition. Stanley Dimitroff, who now lives in Florida, faces an Oconee County trial on the charge of breach of trust, but he told McIntosh this morning that he has a heart and diabetic condition and needs to visit his doctor in Pensacola before that doctor will prescribe the necessary medication. McIntosh said he believes that, in cases such as this, it’s standard for the doctor to simply telephone the prescription. But Dimitroff told the judge his doctor wants to see him. One consideration the judge will consider is the extent to which Dimitroff would be a flight risk. But his lawyer, Russell Patrick, said his client owns property in Oconee County. The judge said if he permits Dimitroff to return to Florida to see his doctor he’ll require an agreement for Dimitroff to waive extyradition and will likely require, if possible, a monitor for him to wear that will record his movements
