If a judgeship is ahead for you, there are important dates to follow in 2014. The chief counsel for the South Carolina Merit Selection Commission, Jane Shuler, plans to announce next week the particulars for aspiring judicial candidates. Seats to be available this year include the 10th Judicial Circuit, Seat 2. It’s the seat that West Union’s Alex Macaulay must vacate by the end of the year because of the mandatory retirement age for state judges. Macaulay reaches that age, 72 years old, tomorrow. The official announcement of judges’ vacancies is to be made Thursday, February 6. Interested individuals have until March 10 to apply. Public hearings on candidates deemed qualified begin April 28. Judicial elections by the General Assembly start May 28.
