Jury pool summoned for October trial

About 90 Oconeeans have been directed by the Common Pleas Court to report as a jury pool for a trial next month in which Oconee County will defend itself against a contractor’s claim for $1.9 million. From that pool the court would choose a 12-member jury to hear the case. From the jury pool, a 12-member jury would be picked to hear the case. That money, if granted Plateau Excavation of the Atlanta, would settle the contractor’s claim in the project that extended the county airport’s runway a few years ago. It represents more than one-half of the original contract between Plateau and the county. The trial is scheduled to begin the week of October 6 at the Oconee Courthouse. Judge Lawton McIntosh presides.
