K-T re-licensing open house draws large crowd

An open house for the project to re-license Duke Energy’s Keowee-Toxaway project drew a large crowd as the time draws nearer for a stakeholders’ team to sign an agreement in principle. Eventually, the process leads to a formal application by Duke Energy for a new, 40-year license from the federal government. One stakeholder, Bob Swank of Friends of Lake Keowee, has said probably no stakeholder is completely happy by everything in the agreement. Another, however, Seneca Light and Water’s Bob Faires sounds pleased, “Duke’s a done a great job.” Faires’ involvement directly relates to his city’s interest in assuring that the municipality continues drawing its water supply from the Duke-managed Lake Keowee. During a presentation yesterday at Clemson’s Madren Center, Duke’s Jeff Lineberger acknowledged the many concerns of lake residents about water levels and explained how the re-licensing process address those concerns.
