Rogers funeral plans set

August 23, 2014

Walhalla City Councilwoman and Oconee Red Cross Chapter leader Kathy Rogers died Friday afternoon after a battle with cancer. Rogers died the day after an interview aired on the “Golden Corner’s Morning Show” with Wayne Morton and other local musicians and friends of Rogers who had organized a tribute concert for Saturday night in Walhalla. Morton told host Kris Butts the event would accept donations to help defray the cost incurred during Ms. Rogers illness, but was more of an event geared toward saying “thank you” to someone who had given so much to the community. Morton says the event, scheduled for 6:00 PM Saturday at the Hostetler Auditorium of Walhalla High School, will go on as planned, transitioning to more of a celebration of life which is “what Kathy would want.” Rogers was in the midst of her first year on Walhalla’s City Council when diagnosed with a tumor in her brain earlier this summer. Further tests indicated the cancer had spread to other organs, and she was placed at Cottingham Hospice House recently, where she died around 5:00 PM Friday. Outpourings of love began spreading on social media Friday evening.  The funeral will be 4 p-m Monday at Davenport Funeral Home.  There, the family receives friends from 1:30 to 3:30 Monday afternoon.   The Saturday night event celebrating Rogers life is free of an admission charge, and will feature musicians such as Conservation Theory, Carol Strickland, and others.
