Keep broadband alive, Moulder urges

96.3/WGOG began enjoying the advantages this week of high-speed internet, courtesy of Oconee County’s “FOCUS” project. But the delay in spreading high-speed availability to other parts of the county has led to complaints that made their way to last night’s Oconee County Council meeting. Administrator Scott Moulder appealed to council to keep alive the project to build a broadband network extending into the county’s rural areas, and he made this statement: “We can either fight to make it work or we can take the $4.5 million in matching funds and flush it down the toilet.” The issue at last night’s meeting was the approval of a $200 thousand contract to maintain the network.
