Keeping an eye on school’s numbers
Chairman Andy Inabinet of the Oconee School Board of Trustees made the comment last night that the numbers pertaining to the Tamassee-Salem Middle and High School bear watching. Inabinet spoke after District Five trustee Buddy Herring said, so far, this year there has been a 15% drop in enrollment from last year. At their September meeting last night, the trustees received a report which showed that, for 2014, spending per pupil costs at the combined middle and high school in Salem had exceeded $10 thousand—the only school in the district which reported per pupil costs above $10 thousand. And, if enrollment doesn’t climb, it’s estimated that Tamassee-Salem’s per pupil costs will increase further.
