Keowee 100th: a fun time

Old model cars, inflatables for kids, and food. Saturday’s event to mark 100 years of Keowee community’s public school offered a lot to everyone. School alumni enjoyed browsing old yearbooks and renewing friendships. From her vantage point Saturday, as a 13-year classroom teacher in the community, Andrea Alewine expressed pride to 96.3/WGOG NEWS that her school, although small, is an example of how small can be better in a 21st century world. Among those renewing friendship was Doug Nix, Class of 1962 at what then was Keowee High School. He displayed his red Keowee Indians lettermen’s jacket on the seat of a restored 1962 black Chevy car that has sentimental value to both Nix and his wife, Linda. They dated in one just like it. Another Keowee alumnus, John Powell, arrived in a 1965 Ford Mustang convertible.
