Keowee students take Arbor Day seriously

carleeGansen ashlynnDenny2  Getting ready for Arbor Day tomorrow, the Service Learning Club at Keowee Elementary School hosted a school-wide poetry contest to highlight the importance of trees. Students wrote a variety of creative, tree-themed poems. Contest winner Ashlyn Denny of the second grade and Carlee Gansen of the fourth grade were given pine trees to take home to plant, as well as the chance to read their poems on the school’s morning news program. A tree-planting ceremony on the Keowee school campus, hosted by the Lake and Hills Garden Club, takes place at 1 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.
