Koyo co-op trains for lifelong career

Over the next few years, Koyo Bearings in Walhalla will face a dilemma common to
manufacturers—filling jobs vacated by senior employees who take with them a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Kellie Smith, Koyo human resources analyst, says the challenge is to proactively hire a pipeline of qualified employees to succeed them. The departures create opportunities for students like Wesley O’Kelley. A 2012 West-Oak graduate, O’Kelley is training for a lifelong career as a Machine Tool Technology major engaged in a work/based learning experience that gives him on-the-job training while he completes his degree.
