Lake Hartwell Approaching Record Level

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for most of the Golden Corner and Northeast Georgia.  According to the weather service, an automated gauge on Lake Hartwell read 665.02 feet at 6:10 am this morning. Flood stage is 665 feet. Forecasters expect the water levels on Lake Hartwell will slowly rise through Wednesday and is expected to peak at 665.27 feet. The weather service warns at this level, the creeks that drain into the lake will experience slower flow and higher levels. The weather service says  it has been 20 years since Lake Hartwell was at its current level. The record level of the lake was set in 1964 at 665.40 feet.
