Land deal for a ‘Y’/Wellness facility

The concept of a land transfer to allow for a full-service YMCA serving Oconee County is A-OK with the County Council. On legal advice from its attorney, Oconee County Council last night approved the concept of a land transfer in which about 20 acres of undeveloped property on Oconee Medical Center grounds would be dealt to build the Y. According to county leaders, there’s a history of the county owning property on the hospital grounds, as recalled by Councilman Archie Barron. He is a former hospital board chairman. Barron said on the wishes of a former county councilman, there was agreement to set aside property for a future YMCA/wellness facility. County Attorney Tom Martin said a motion was appropriate for the council to authorize the administrator to proceed. Responding to a question by Council Chairman Joel Thrift, Administrator Scott Moulder said no decision had been reached as to where access roads would be needed.
