Larry Dickson mulls School Board run

An Earles Grove resident and businessman is considering a run next year for the school board seat from the southern section of Oconee, and he says what’s going on in the northern part of the county has motivated him.  If he runs, Larry Dickson will seek the District Five seat, now held by Buddy Herring.  This is not the first time that Dickson will have come to the big dance.  He made an unsuccessful try before the county trustees eventually consolidated his area’s Oakway Middle with a new school in Westminster.  Dickson claims had he won, it would never have happened.  With relatives in the Salem area, Dickson feels a kinship to that area as it attempts to convince the trustees to reject an administrative recommendation that would close the Tamassee-Salem Middle/High School next year.  He’s suspicious of the $750 thousand dollar annual savings, which administrators say will be realized for a district having trouble balancing its budget.
