Leadership Oconee announces project

We Care Tom and Opal Peurifoy  The Leadership Oconee County Class of 2014-15 wants to ensure that the Westminster community does not lose its We Care food and clothing pantry. Brandy Taylor, class president, announced this week, “We are going to repair some of the exterior and interior and reorganize the items inside so that We Care will be functional for many years to come.” One of those efforts will be made on Monday, as class members will volunteer there on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Though small, We Care is considered an effective pantry that, for decades, has served 100 people each week. Located at 610 S. Piedmont Street, We Care distributed 23, 200 meals and saw 1,548 individuals in 2013. The operation began in the late 1970s in the back of a pickup truck with a simple sign that read “We Care.” If you are interested in donating to We Care or volunteering with Leadership Oconee’s class project, contact Taylor at 710-0889 or landvisiontitles@bellsouth,net.
