Learning the skill of a master forester

As part of a summer camp assignment, Clemson University forestry students trekked up Western North Carolina’s Whiteside Mountain to collect plant and tree species and identify topographic traits of the area.  They are part of a seven-week program to give them hands-on experience in the field of forestry.  The forestry industry in South Carolina has an $18.6 billion annual economic output and produces an estimated 92 thousand jobs and $4.5 billion labor income.  The camp prepares students for entering a specialized workforce where much of the economic impact is centered on service activities, trade and natural resources.
