Legionnaires to find new home across town

A partnership between Walhalla American Legion and the Golden Corner Church eventually will allow the legionnaires to vacate their small Post 124 headquarters on North Church Street and re-locate to Kenneth Street next to the Veterans Affairs Office—-on property provided by the church. A property transfer signing was held recently for an agreement covering 2.5 acres. The church owns about 20 acres between Earle and Kenneth streets and is in the middle of a renovation and expansion project. But the Rev. Mark Bagwell says, “We love veterans and we have a number of them in our congregation.” No time frame has been set for the project. Rick Gibson and County Veterans Affairs Officer Jerry Dyar are in charge of fund-raising.
