Library leaders to consider Salem solution

Oconee library officials are accepting an invitation to have a look at the Tamassee-Salem Middle/High School with the idea of using part of the complex of buildings as the solution to Salem’s library needs.  Danny Day, chairman of the library board of trustees, says his board has accepted an invitation from the Town of Salem and the Oconee School District to visit the middle and high school to have a look.  Pending the outcome of a court challenge against closing the school, the school district is in the process of turning over the school buildings and property for use by the Town of Salem.  Brad Norton, town attorney, says Salem has a big interest in using part of the buildings and property to expand the town’s recreation offerings—especially for adults.  Day says key to the possibility of re-locating Salem’s library to the school property is the cost, particularly what it would cost for electric power.
