Lift for Pool on Hold

The decision whether or not to install a wheelchair lift to make the Westminster City pool compliant with federal regulations has been delayed.  The officials with the City of Westminster have delayed the decision, in anticipation of an estimate of other operational costs of the facility.  The facility is required to be compliant with the American’s with Disabilities Act by January 31, 2013.  The original March 15th, 2012 date was extended by the Justice Department. Pools which are open to the public are required to have a permanent lift system to allow wheelchair bound individuals access to the pool.  City Administrator David Smith said he assumes the council will make a decision on the lift once next year’s other operational costs are determined.
