Local contractor gets the nod for Streetscape

After meeting privately for about 30 minutes, Walhalla City Council reconvened to open session and awarded the Streetscape contract to Hutch-N-Son Construction. It means, according to Mayor Danny Edwards, that the construction company, headed by Danny Hutchinson, will serve as general contractor for the project which is designed to re-make Walhalla’s downtown core commercial business area—a section of four Main Street blocks from Ann to Tugaloo streets. In a related move, the council voted unanimously to chop down the remaining Bradford pear trees, to help make way for the utility, sidewalk, and street paving that will follow. Hutch-N-Son’s bid of $2.1 million was the lowest of two received for the project. The other bid offered came from a Greenwood company.
